Revolutionizing First Aid: The 'Ouch' Kit

Designer Xiaofei Liu's Innovative Approach to Everyday Emergency Preparedness

Introducing 'Ouch', a portable first aid kit designed for everyday life by Xiaofei Liu. This innovative design aims to make emergency medical treatment accessible and user-friendly for all, regardless of medical knowledge. The design, which won a Silver A' Packaging Design Award in 2020, is a testament to Liu's commitment to creating designs that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and life-saving.

The 'Ouch' kit is a response to the common questions and concerns people have when faced with a medical emergency. Do they know how to use a first aid kit? Are they aware of the procedure for trauma bandaging? Can they remain calm in an emergency? The 'Ouch' kit is designed to be easy to use, even for those without professional medical knowledge, and aims to make the process of using a first aid kit as straightforward as possible.

One of the unique features of the 'Ouch' kit is its user-friendly design. The kit is divided into three steps: disinfection, treatment, and bandaging, making it easy for users to understand what to do in an emergency. The kit is also designed to be portable, with a lightweight, paper packaging that is environmentally friendly and easy to carry around.

The 'Ouch' kit was created using 60lb weight recycled paper and was initially designed in Adobe Illustrator. A laser cut machine was used to cut the box, and a vinyl sticker machine was used to print the color surface and numbers on the top. The kit measures 14cm in width, 12cm in height, and 2.3cm in depth, making it compact and easy to transport.

One of the challenges Liu faced in creating the 'Ouch' kit was selecting the right medical items to include. After extensive research and experimentation, Liu carefully selected essential first aid items and arranged them in an easy-to-follow, step-by-step format. The container is divided into three compartments for each step of the process: cleaning and disinfecting the wound, applying various treatment drugs, and bandaging.

The 'Ouch' kit is a testament to Liu's innovative approach to design and his commitment to creating products that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and life-saving. With its user-friendly design and portable packaging, the 'Ouch' kit is a revolutionary approach to everyday emergency preparedness.
